Informal peer support has always taken in place within the MS community. Since late 2019 MS Auckland has been working on developing a formal one-on-one Peer Support programme with trained Peer Support volunteers.
MS Auckland has five trained peer support volunteers who are available to talk to you on the phone or over a coffee.
More information will be available here soon but if you would like to talk to someone about the Peer Support Programme, or would like to be connected to a Peer Support volunteer, please contact the office at info@msakl.org.nz

“It was invaluable and tremendously reassuring to meet someone who has MS, and to be able to joke about our wooden-feeling feet and much else”.

“Being diagnosed with MS just recently at age 30 was a terrifying experience for me. I knew nothing about MS and although there were many well meaning people in my life offering advice, other people just didn’t seem to understand. I felt I was very, very alone and was getting rather low….. I was connected with a Peer Support volunteer. She is funny, friendly and positive and just the example I needed of someone living well with MS to dispel some of the fears I was dwelling on. I feel now I have a buddy on this journey that I can reach out to.”
