John and Lorraine Street

Ambassadors

John and Lorraine Street were the first Ambassadors for MS Auckland and have done an extraordinary amount over the years to support the organisation in its work.

They became involved with the Society when their youngest daughter, Pip, was diagnosed in 1992. Pip was an active member of the society for many years, hosting support group meetings in her home and attending hydrotherapy classes. Unfortunately Pip’s MS continued to progress and sadly she passed away in April of 2020.

Over the years John and Lorraine’s involvement included supporting the fundraising efforts of the society; most notably the ‘Life Buoy for MS’ event held at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, of which John is an Honorary Life Member.

John and Lorraine are very involved in the community and with charities. John was honoured with a Member of New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in 1996 for his contribution to all things Marine. Together they were also very involved in the Auckland Volcanic Cone Society, to save the volcanic cones from development and other intrusion. Lorraine is also involved with the Red Cross and has been delivering Meals on Wheels for over 45 years.

In 2019, to acknowledge their huge contribution to MS, John and Lorraine Street were made Honorary Life Members of MS Auckland.
