According to Michael Palin, Sam Smith is God’s favourite New Zealand comedian!
A graduate of the Class Comedians programme, Sam was a Raw Comedy Quest finalist in 2011, and won Best Newcomer 2013 in the NZICF for his first solo show Samantics. But he didn’t make the full time switch to comedy from a career in dentistry until after his MS diagnosis in 2015. And although he really liked his job a temporary loss of strength in his hands made it difficult to continue practicing dentistry, so he started making a career out of his hobby – comedy and music.
It’s safe to say his hobby has worked out for him; Sam is a writer for the popular TV show 7 Days, and often appears on TV and the New Zealand comedy circuit. He is our very own celebrity!
