Measles Outbreak Information for people with MS – As of today, Friday 6 September, there have been 881 confirmed cases of measles in Auckland and 1,059 across NZ. Vaccination is your best protection. However the MMR immunisation is a live attenuated vaccine and therefore for people with MS on a DMT, it is contraindicated.
The Ministry of Health website’s advice for people over 50 is that they are generally considered immune and don’t need an immunisation.
However if you are under the age of 50 and don’t know if you have been vaccinated, or if you want to check your immunity, you can go to your doctor and ask for a blood test to have your immunity tested. Or, you can go directly to labtests and pay for a test here: https://mytests.labtests.co.nz.
If you are not immune please talk to your GP or the MS Nurses to determine your next steps.
