e-newsletter September 2018

e-newsletter September 2018

‘I just found out I’m colour blind. The diagnosis came completely out of the purple’.
‘Claustrophobic people are more productive thinking out of the box’.

The jokes at the Comedy Classic were much funnier than the ones above! I still have a smile on my face after last week’s fantastic night, which kicked off MS Awareness Week and raised lots of funds for MS. Huge thanks to Sam Smith, our MC, and his mates, who had us entertained throughout the night. Also, a big shout out to JUCY and Harcourts Cooper & Co our super sponsors. Please if you are looking to go on a road trip through NZ, or buying or selling a house consider supporting these wonderful businesses who give so much back to the community.

We have had such a busy time over the last month with all our Awareness Week activities and fundraisers and of course our Street Appeal. We are also very excited to be offering you an opportunity to win a very special prize! Read all about it in this newsletter.

The Gavel Club is a supportive and fun environment. See the attached flyer for more information and register today!

4. Awareness Week and Street Appeal
Wow! What a week it has been! Our campaign this year was aimed at trying to demystify MS for the average person with a focus on one of the symptoms of MS – numb hands. Hopefully you may have come across some of our posters or videos, or saw our Herald online article, or heard Sam’s interview on the Hits radio station. Perhaps you gave the MS simulator a go at the Albany Westfield mall? Check out our Facebook page to see all the postings, or go to our website to see our video campaign.

If you missed out on the collectors over the weekend and would like to make a donation, please go to our Give-a-little-campaign, where you can hear some of the motivating stories and contribute to help us in making a difference.

I’ll have more information and pictures from our street collection for you in the next newsletter.

5. MS fundraising adventure across 7 Continents – 22 October 2018
Don’t forget about this opportunity to be part of a 7 continent event for MS! Cherie is organising an event at Whangamata on the Labour Day Monday. You can walk, run or bike the 10k circuit, or a part of it. There’s no cost to join in.

For more information please contact Cherie at c.prescott@hotmail.com.

6. Exciting new product website - www.befree.kiwi
Check out this exciting new website that was recently launched by Carol who lives with MS. Carol tells us that the idea ‘was born out of frustration that disability products are too expensive, or non-existent’. If you don’t see what you need than keep checking as she tells us that ‘more products are being added weekly’. Or you can even contact her through her website and give her some feedback or product ideas.

7. For Sale – Acorn Chair lifts – only $500 each plus installation cost
Have you considered getting a chair lift installed, or do you know someone who can use one? Here is a great opportunity to purchase a lift for only $500, plus the installation cost from a member of our community. One was purchased in September 2011 and the other February 2012 at a cost of well over $5,000 each. They are both in very good condition as they were not used much and serviced regularly. They were both supplied and installed by Acorn stairlifts.

Both chair lifts span 8 steps. Acorn will be happy to remove and install them in a different home. There will be an installation cost and additional cost for a new rail if the length of the stairs is different.

If you are interested in one or both of them or would like more information please contact Russell on 09 482 2987 or e-mail jackie8@orcon.net.nz.

8. Mazda 2002 mobility vehicle – For Sale
