Oh my! What a busy start to 2018 we have had! There is so much going on at MS Auckland. This newsletter is jam packed with information. Please sit down, maybe put your feet up and read about all the things coming up.

1. Win an e-bike - $5 raffle tickets available now

Thanks to the kind support of our friends at Electric Bikes NZ Ltd. and Smartmotion we have an e-bike valued at $2,799 to raffle off! Tickets will be sold up to the 2nd of May with the prize draw taking place on the 9th of May. Only 2,000 tickets will be sold so the odds of winning are great. Tickets are just $5 and come in books of 5 – so you can buy a book for $25 and have 5 chances of winning this amazing bike!

To order your tickets please download the order form here. Send the form back to us free post and we will mail your tickets out to you.

If you are in the area you may want to drop by and purchase your ticket from the office. We are at 5 The Strand in Takapuna and open weekdays from 9am to 5pm.

We are also seeking people who will be willing to help us in selling tickets – either through your work place, social groups, family, etc. All help would be greatly appreciated! Please contact Kirsty at events@msakl.org.nz or on 09 845 5921 if you can help us out.

2. Wellness Workshop – Discrimination in Employment - 24th February

Olivia Kelly from Auckland Disability Law is presenting on Employment Rights in our first Wellness Workshop for 2018. The session will be held at the Remuera Club at 27-33 Ohinerau Street, Remuera, Auckland. Come in for 10am to get yourself a cup of coffee or tea and a little bite to eat. The presentation will get underway at 10:15 and finish by noon. Cost is $10/person. We need numbers so please register by e-mailing events@msakl.org.nz or phone 09 845 5921.

3. Caffeine and Classics – Volunteer helpers needed for BBQ fundraiser

MS Auckland will be having a stand at the very popular Caffeine & Classics event on the 25th of March. We will have a BBQ and will be looking at raising funds, selling raffle tickets, and raising MS awareness. The popular event is held at Smales Farm at Northcote on the last Sunday of each month. Motorcycles, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Vintage and Classic cars all come out to what has become New Zealand’s largest monthly vehicle gathering.

We need volunteers from 7:30am to 12:30pm to help with the BBQ and to help in selling raffle tickets. Also if you have any contacts of people who would be willing to donate sausages, bread, onions, bacon, etc. we would love to hear from you. 4. MS Auckland AGM – 11th April 2018

The date for our AGM has now been set – Wednesday 11th April starting at 5:30pm. We are still finalising the venue, which will be somewhere on the North Shore around Takapuna. More information will be available in the next e-news.

We are looking for new members to join the Committee. It’s a volunteer role with the Committee meeting about 8 to 10 times a year. It’s an important time to become involved as we look to the future and ensure we continue to meet the needs of people living with MS. 5. Oceans of Hope searching for a crew of NZ participants – 8th – 13th November 2018

Oceans of Hope will be returning to New Zealand’s shores and is currently searching for a crew of MS participants from NZ and around the world to take part. UK based skipper Robert Munns, who also lives with MS, will steward the crew of 35 adults with MS on his award-winning sailing challenge. Robert created the Oceans of Hope Challenge in 2015 and since then has shared the experience with over 100 adults affected by MS in 6 different challenges.

The cost for this sailing event is $1572 (incl GST) per person not including travel to Auckland (Princes Wharf).

Training courses will also be available in May and September 2018 for those wishing to prepare and gain sailing experience.

6. Vacancy on the NZ MS Research Trust (NZMSRT)

A Trustee vacancy has come up for the National MS Research Trust. This is a volunteer role that will require 20 to 30 hours a year.

7. Save the Date! Life Buoy for MS returns this year on Sunday 17 June 2018

Yes! Life Buoy for MS returns this year. We will once again be at the beautiful waterfront inside the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Ballroom. We are putting on a Sunday lunch, with entertainment and of course an auction with fabulous prizes to be won.

Tickets for the event will be just $75/person which will include a drink on arrival. A cash bar will be available.

We are currently looking for businesses or organisations that would like to sponsor the event. Sponsorship of $1,000 will receive two tickets, advertising in printed and digital media and acknowledgements on the day. Sponsorship of $2,000 will receive four tickets plus further advertising and acknowledgements.

Tickets will go on sale after Easter. In the meantime be sure to save the date – Sunday 17 June 2018.
