e-newsletter August 2019

August 2019

Know that people are doing the best they can from their level of awareness. Accept people for who they are and always be ready to forgive. Deepak Chopra

August will be a busy month for us as we step up to start preparing for MS Awareness. Officially, MS Awareness runs for a week, from the 16th of September to the 22nd, but we are aiming to have activities throughout the month of September to help raise the level of understanding of MS in the community and also raise funds to support our work.

Street Appeal is one of our major fundraisers taking place from the 20th to the 22nd of September. Kelly, an AUT student studying event management, has joined us for the next 8 weeks to help us in organizing the event, which this year will be in 9 locations throughout Auckland.

We are very excited to have Shane Le Brun from MCANZ here at the end of the month. He will be giving a presentation on Medicinal Cannabis in Remuera, Henderson and Manukau. We hope you can take the opportunity to come along to one of the venues to learn more about how medicinal cannabis can be used to treat symptoms of MS and other conditions, and the proposed law changes surrounding it.

Find out more about the Medicinal Cannabis presentations, MS Awareness activities, and so much more in the following e-news. As always I welcome your feedback, suggestions and comments. Please send them to me directly at Ingrid@msakl.org.nz.

Some last words…..
I would like to finish by sharing a lovely story with you. One of our MS people, Judith, has her house cleaned by a woman who also cleans another man’s house who also has MS. The cleaning lady was concerned about the man and asked Judith what was available for support. Judith told her about MS Auckland and the cleaning lady passed this on to the man. Since then the man has had a visit from an MS Community Advisor and was very happy with all the information and support he received. He is doing so much better now. I’d like to say a big thank you to the cleaning lady for referring her client on to us. If you know of someone with MS who is not connected to us, please pass them our information, or ask if you can refer them to us. They may not need support today, but they may appreciate being connected and knowing what’s available for them if they ever need it.

Join us on Facebook for more news, events, updates and interesting tidbits!

Have a wonderful month of August lovely people!

With warm wishes,

Ingrid Minett
