e-newsletter August 2017

e-newsletter August 2017

Happy August! August is MS Awareness time, followed by our Annual Street Appeal in early September. We have so much exciting news to share with you around these events.

I am very excited for the upcoming comedy fundraiser ‘Laughter is the Best Medicine’ at The Classic in Auckland on the 29th of August. We have 6 brilliant comedians all donating their time (including Dai Henwood and Guy Williams) with our wonderful community partners, Harcourts Cooper & Co, sponsoring the event. All proceeds from the event will go to supporting people living with MS in the Auckland region. This event has been organised by one of my favourite comedians, Sam Smith, who also lives with MS. Sam will be our Master of Ceremonies on the night. This is going to be an awesome night of fun and laughter! Tickets will sell fast, so check below for information on how to book your ticket.

We are also very busy working to fill rosters for our Annual Streel Appeal. Thank you to everyone who has already replied. Many hands make light work – we are still in need of more volunteers!

Bunnings are coming on board with us for our Street Appeal with some stores choosing MS Auckland to support at some of their special in store events.
Read on to find out more about all the activities happening this month.

1. ‘Laughter is the Best Medicine’ – Tuesday 29th August at The Classic – A night not to be missed!
I am so very excited to be inviting you to join us as we launch MS Awareness Week with a spectacular comedy event – ‘Laughter is the best Medicine’ - at The Classic on Queen Street.
Our very own comedian, Sam Smith, who lives with MS has organised 5 other comedians – including Dai Henwood and Guy Williams - to donate their time and join him to raise funds for MS Auckland.
Our wonderful community sponsors, Harcourts Cooper & Co are sponsoring the event, so all proceeds will go directly to MS Auckland.
Tickets are only $32.14 ($30 plus booking fee).
Book your tickets today!
We will also be raffling off some grand prizes, including the opportunity for up to 4 people to enjoy a week’s accommodation in a luxury, fully accessible balcony apartment at Lake Taupo and 2 tickets to the Jono and Ben show.
Tables are of 6, so you might want to organise a group of 6, or join in with others on the night. There is no reserved seating so it will be first come first served. I recommend coming early and getting a drink at the bar and your raffle tickets before the show starts
This will be a very special night out! Please get your tickets early so you don’t miss out. Hope to see you there!

3. MS Annual Street Appeal – 1st and 2nd of September
Thank you to everyone who has responded to date offering to volunteer a few hours for our Street Appeal collection. We still need more people! For the first time we are collecting at the Bus Park n’ Rides at Albany and Constellation park on Friday the 1st of September. I will be there from about 5:45am. We are looking for a couple more early birds to join me. I collected for the first time last year and really enjoyed it. It is so encouraging meeting and greeting all the kind and generous people living in our communities. If you are interested in helping out either for the early bird shift or any shift on either day please contact Kirsty at streetappeal@msakl.org.nz.

4. Alinker comes to NZ – Special event Monday 7 August 2-5pm
MSNZ has been donated 40 Alinkers – which is a non-motorized walking-bike without pedals –by a kind benefactor to be used throughout NZ. The Alinker is for everyone who wants to maintain an active life regardless of their movement abilities or disabilities. The handover of the bikes to MSNZ will take place at the Laura Fergusson Centre at 224 Great South Road, Greenlane from 2pm to 5pm. You are invited to come along to meet the inventor of the Alinker and to see the bike and perhaps have a go. Check out the Facebook page below for more information.
