Yesterday we had our Annual General Meeting. We reported on the 2017 year – our activities, events and our financial standing. We also elected the Committee members for the coming year. Being on the Committee is a volunteer position. Committee members give their time, knowledge and skills, and also support the fundraising ventures of MS Auckland to ensure we are able to continue to serve our mission. Volunteers are wonderful people. Big hugs to everyone who gives unselfishly to others!

1. MS Auckland AGM – Meet the MS Auckland Committee

On the 11th of April our Annual General Meeting was held. Three members stepped down from the Committee this year – long term members Graham Wear, who was our guest speaker on the night, Michael Cole and Kerri Hoy, our secretary last year, and we welcomed four new people to the Committee. The MS Committee for 2018 is:

2. Win an e-bike! Raffle tickets only $5 each.

This is your last chance to be in to win this amazing bike! Tickets are just $5 and come in books of 5 – so you can buy a book for $25 and have 5 chances of winning.

Huge thanks to our partner Electric Bikes NZ for their generous donation of the bike and all our ticket sellers for selling the raffle tickets on our behalf. Tickets will be sold up to the 2nd of May with the prize draw taking place on the 9th of May. Only 2,000 tickets will be sold so the odds of winning are great!

3. Research Day 2018 – Save the date!

The date for this year’s Research Day is set – Saturday 26th May

The times are set – Starting at 9:30am and finishing by 1:30pm

The venue is set – Alexandra Park in Greenlane, Auckland

The three speakers are set:

1. Key note speaker is Associate Professor Helmut Buzkueven, joint Director of the MS Service at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Director of the MS service at Box Hill Hospital Melbourne.

2. Dr John Davison, Senior Clinical Psychologist at Middlemore Hospital, providing psychological and neuro-psychological assessments for adults and families.

3. Dr Mark Craig, GP with a special interest in nutrition and health.

This day is free to attend and is a very popular event in our calendar. This year we will also provide a substantial morning tea following the first speaker, and some finger food at the close of the event with some time for networking and mingling before everyone heads back home.

In the next couple of weeks we will be announcing that registration for Research Day will open. Registration is essential, as the numbers will be limited.

 

4. Life Buoy for MS - Sunday 17th June 2018

Our Annual fundraising event will be a lunch and auction at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron at Westhaven Marina. It is our biggest fundraiser of the year and lots of fun.

Thanks to the hard work of the Life Buoy fundraising committee the plans for the biggest fundraiser of the year are progressing well! Harcourts Cooper & Co have been supporting this event for many years now and this year are our main sponsors. We are pleased to also have supporting us this year Care on Call.

Tickets for the event will be just $75/person (plus booking fee) which will include a two course lunch with chocolate and coffee for dessert, two complimentary bottles of wine per table and a cash bar.

5. New Central Auckland Field Worker

I am pleased to announce that Catherine Glover has accepted the position of Central Auckland Field Worker on a 6 month contract. Catherine fills the void left with Carol's departure. MS Auckland is currently going through a strategic review and once that the review is complete we hope to have a permanent position available. Catherine is currently going through orientation and will be in touch soon with people living in the Central area. If you wish to get in touch with Catherine before that time, please call the office on 09 845 5921.

6. Monthly Giving to MS Auckland

Monthly giving is an easy way to support MS Auckland programmes and activities. It also helps us with the budgeting of our services. All our monthly donors receive an annual receipt at the end of the tax year. Thank you to everyone who is currently providing us with a monthly donation.

Have you considered monthly giving? No amount is too small. Just $10 a month is a great help and very much appreciated. Monthly donation payments can be done through your bank or your credit card. Claire has received counselling support from Home and Family Counselling and to show her appreciation would like to give something back to them by raising money through givealittle.
