Please note: All Hydrotherapy classes are on hold until Auckland returns to Level 1.
MS Auckland facilitates several Hydrotherapy classes across the Auckland region.
Hydrotherapy classes focus on whole body workouts. The non-weight bearing water based exercise is good for pain, especially chronic pain and allows joint stiffness to be released.
Research investigating the use of aquatic exercise in people with MS shows that it provides varying levels of support with the following benefits:
- Improved muscle strength
- Improved fitness
- Improved gait and mobility
- Reduced fatigue
- Increased quality of life or sense of well-being
The classes combine high intensity training with low intensity rest periods and focus on strength, balance, fitness and stretch training. The exercise is suitable for many people with MS as a method of enhancing or maintaining their physical abilities and as a leisure activity. The evidence to date indicates a range of positive benefits and no detrimental effects.
Our Hydrotherapy classes are as much a social outing as they are an exercise class providing a friendly and supportive environment.
The first two classes are free of charge for those new to Hydrotherapy so you can try it out before you commit. After that there is a small charge to attend.
Payment can be made for a year, half year or for a quarter (in line with school terms). There are no casual passes as the benefits of Hydrotherapy come from a commitment to regular attendance. The pass allows you to attend as many classes as you like each week across our schedule.
Yearly pass = $120 per person
6 month pass = $60 per person
Quarterly pass (per school term) = $30 per person
You can pay for your Hydrotherapy pass by direct debit or credit card here…
How to register
If you are new to MS Auckland Hydrotherapy and interested in trying it out and redeeming your 2 free sessions, simply contact the office to let us know. You only need to contact us for your first visit at a pool so we can let the Physio leading the session know to expect you. We will also let the Community Advisor know who may contact you to follow up with any further information.
