Rachael's Story

Rachael’s life has changed dramatically since the doctors confirmed her MS diagnosis in 1993. At the time Rachael was in her early twenties, training to become a nurse and looking forward to all that the future had to hold. The MS diagnosis turned Rachael’s world upside down as she tried to come to terms with a future, very different from the one she had imagined.

MS Auckland Region has been there for Rachael at critical stages throughout her MS journey, providing information, guidance, support and access to programmes and health and wellness classes.  This, and the ongoing support she has received from both us and her new husband (who also has MS), have empowered Rachael to take control of her MS and thrive in her daily life.

We would like to do more for Rachael and the hundreds of other people we support. With your help we can. Watch her story, be inspired and then  make a donation and email the link on to as many people as you can, so they too can watch Rachaels’ story. Together, we can make a difference.

Strategic Review

A strategic review of MS Auckland Region has recently been completed. It highlighted that the Society has come a long way in the last few years and now there is a need to focus on structure and increasing professionalism to take it to the next level.

The review was created after holding 10 focus groups with Society Members, and interviewing Committee Members and staff, in order to gain deeper insight into the Society’s current position.

Following on from the review, recommendations have been made to help guide MS Auckland Region towards achieving this next level. Some of the areas identified for future focus include respite care, streamlining information and developing more substantial exercise opportunities.

The Society is in good heart. The merger has been perceived as a positive thing for all parties. As the Society has raised the standard of its performance, the expectations of our members have risen accordingly. From the review it was obvious there is a lot of good will towards the society.

Read the full review and recommendations and Actions on Strategic Report. Alternatively, contact the office on (09) 845 5921 if you would like a copy sent out to you.
